Initial (three year) CTE Authorization
From the Colorado Department of Education Career and Technical Education Authorization general information website:
“The CTE three year authorization is available to applicants who meet the educational and occupational requirements for the particular CTE credential they are seeking, but have not met the requirements for issuance of a professional five year CTE. This Initial Authorization can only be issued once and is non-renewable. Upon issuance of the Initial three year CTE Authorization, CDE will assign any specific Career and Technical Education courses that are required to move to a five year authorization.”
For applicants who hold a Colorado teaching license -
The Colorado Department of Education may require that you complete a series of Career and Technical Education courses, which are offered by CSU. When taking these courses, please be aware that both courses must be completed at Colorado State University. This is necessary to fulfill the course content and semester hour requirements.
EDCT 300 - CTE philosophy, operation, and management (2 semester hours)
EDCT 400 - Student organization/leadership development (2 semester hours)
Professional (five year) CTE Authorization
From the Colorado Department of Education Career and Technical Education Authorization general information website:
“The five year CTE Authorization is available to applicants who have completed all coursework and experience specific to the individual CTE credential. Once an applicant has obtained a five year CTE Authorization and also holds a professional teaching license, the CTE Authorization may be linked to that license.” CSU offers coursework toward a content credential, which is one requirement to earn a CTE Professional Authorization.
