The application of optics and photonics in state-of-the-art computing systems. Topics include the fundamental concepts in bulk and integrated optics; recent applications of optics in computing including optics for AI, ML, and logic gates; optical memories; optics for encryption and security, encompassing quantum key distribution and physical unclonable functions; and recent advancements in optical quantum computing.
Prerequisite
ECE 102 ((Digital Circuit Logic) with a minimum grade of C); ECE 311 (Linear System Analysis I) with a minimum grade of C; MATH 340 ((Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations Mathematics) with a minimum grade of C); Sophomore standing.
