Behavioral Health Certificate Program

Online behavioral health certificate program

Get the training you need to effectively practice in today’s challenging behavioral health settings with CSU’s online Graduate Certificate in Advanced Clinical Behavioral Health.

Why clinical behavioral health?

Behavioral health, including clinical social work, is a growing and demanding field that requires ongoing training to understand current diagnoses, medications, and trauma-informed care practices. Individuals with mental illness and substance abuse problems are prevalent, yet underserved, in our society. We need more practitioners who are equipped to meet their needs, and improve their quality of life. Behavioral health certificate programs help to close the skills gap by preparing qualified helping professionals. This mental health certificate, offering online courses, prepares you to enter this important and in-demand role in the health care system.

What you learn

As you work to advance in the behavioral health field, CSU’s online certificate will help you:

  • Sharpen your diagnostic abilities with clinical skills training so you can ultimately create more effective treatment plans.
  • Understand recent changes to industry diagnosis standards as a result of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, Fifth Edition (DSM-5TM).
  • Utilize practical insights from trauma-informed care training to ensure physical, psychological and emotional safety for clients and providers.
  • Obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to sit for state clinical exams.

In addition, and not typically covered in master’s-level programs, CSU’s certificate psychopharmacology courses offer training for professionals working with clients who take prescribed medication.

Courses successfully completed as part of the advanced clinical behavioral health certificate may also count toward elective credit hours required for completion of CSU’s Master of Social Work (M.S.W.), after formal admission per University transfer policies.
